Discord has canceled its plans to develop a blockchain-powered version of the popular chat program. The company said they were “exploring” it, but decided not to go forward with the project after meeting resistance from the community.

After receiving a barrage of negative feedback from community members, popular social media site Discord seems to have postponed its intentions to integrate Ethereum and non-fungible assets onto its platform.
Ethereum speculation is debunked by Discords.
Discord’s CEO and co-founder, Jason Citron, said on his official Twitter profile that the company has no intentions to incorporate ETH into its operations at this time.
Discord’s current emphasis, according to Citron, is on how to safeguard its members from spam, scams, and fraud, which have been more common on the social networking platform in recent years. He didn’t rule out the potential of the company including these features in the future, however.
“We have no present intentions to deploy this internal notion,” he says. For the time being, we’re concentrating on safeguarding users from spam, scams, and fraud. Web3 offers a lot of excellent features, but it also has a lot of issues that we need to address at our size. Soon, there will be more.”
Why is Discord pulling out?
Despite the elation that greeted the news among crypto aficionados, Discord’s CEO revealed earlier this week that the site was working on adding bitcoin capabilities into the platform. However, users of the site responded adversely to this story.
Those who expressed their unhappiness mentioned the environmental effect of mining Ethereum as well as their skepticism about an NFT marketplace that relies heavily on the network of the second most valuable crypto currency by market capitalization.
Aside from that, some platform users have gone so far as to unsubscribe from some of the site’s premium services in order to air their discontent.
While Discord looks to be abandoning ambitions to incorporate crypto features into its platform, Reddit, Twitter, and Facebook have began to make inroads into the young digital asset business by implementing a variety of crypto-friendly features and rules.
